The lessons in this module reference the Arc platform for building performance management. Arc is currently undergoing some updates to improve its functionality and user experience. Please see the Arc resource page for more details on the update.

Use data to determine a building's sustainability performance. Students explore the different aspects of building performance (energy, water, waste, transportation, and occupant satisfaction) using the . Using the platform, students will work to understand how the Arc categories relate to sustainability, what data can be tracked to represent performance for each category, and how a high performing school will differ from an average performing school.

No matter what grade level you teach, these lessons explore the use of data in determining a building's sustainability performance. Each lesson explores a different category of building performance (energy, water, waste, transportation, and occupant satisfaction) using the . Students use the platform to explore how the categories relate to sustainability, what data can be tracked to represent performance for each category, and how a high performing school will differ from an average performing school.

In the lessons, students use their own or shared device to navigate the Arc Digital Playground. There is no login required for the Playground and students can manipulate the data within the platform without permanently editing the data. Lessons can also be modified so that the teacher displays the Playground for all students to see and follow along.

These lessons can be used to envision how the Building Learners program may be implemented in your classroom. We suggest for anyone interested in Building Learners review these lessons to envision using school sustainability data with your students.
