FAQs
Why is Arc being redesigned?
The redesigned Arc is the evolution of Arc, LEED Online, and other GBCI tools. Through the updated website we aim to address feedback about the usability and performance of the existing certification platform, LEED Online. Additionally, we want to create a holistic and seamless user experience across our offerings by merging the functionalities of LEED Online and Arc. Our vision is that this website will provide a centralized area to manage, optimize, report, and certify real estate properties, with an emphasis on ease, efficiency, performance, and reliability. This will be a multi-year process, starting with Arc, and then LEED v5 capability by early 2025.
What is a property, project, and portfolios in Arc?
Upon entering the website, you will see your home dashboard. This view gives you a summary of the properties and portfolios you have access to. On the left sidebar, you will find your navigation panel. Hover over it to expand. In addition to the home page, you will find three pages: Properties, Projects, and Portfolios.
- “Property” is a physical space or location, such as a building, a portion of a building, a city, neighborhood, or campus.
- “Project” is the rating system or other GBCI program that applies to the Property. A Property can have multiple Projects.
- A “Portfolio” is a user-defined grouping of Properties.
You may create a new Property, Project, or Portfolio via the top-level buttons on the Home dashboard. Or, via the buttons within each of their respective navigation pages
How do I monitor performance with properties?
We have switched to a new model that utilizes both properties and projects. A property is a physical, built place with an address and an owner. The property is where you can upload and manage performance data, and where you can compute and visualize Arc Performance Scores and LEED points in the typical categories. Properties in the new platform are analogous to projects in Arc. You can navigate to the property tab on the left sidebar to view all of your existing properties. You can select a property from the list, or search for properties by name or ID using the search functionality.
How do I create a new property?
To do so, click the corresponding button in the top-right corner. You will be walked through a creation flow that asks you to specify key attributes about your property, including its name, location, owner, and the user’s relationship to the property. Once you complete the creation of the property, you will arrive on its home page. The property will be blank. The property is where you can upload and manage performance data. You can review, edit, and add meters. Similar functionality exists for each performance tab, just like legacy Arc. You can also compute and visualize Arc Performance Scores and LEED points in the typical categories. What is currently shown are LEED v4.1 points and the corresponding Arc Score, just like in legacy Arc. However, we are working to separate program-specific elements (like points and scores) into their own workspaces, which we will call projects. Look for that update in Fall 2024. Finally, you'll see several of your building characteristics viewable and editable at this level, such as gross floor area, daily occupants, and operational hours and days. Click the pencil icon to add a new entry for each. Your scores will utilize and reflect the inputs for these operational characteristics, as well as the data inputs for each category, for the time period selected. You may also use the gear in the upper-right-hand corner of the property to update your settings.
How do I manage my team in Arc and their permissions?
You may use the interface on the right-rail to manage the team that has access to your property, along with associated permissions levels. Manage permissions means that you can edit anything about the property, and add and delete team members. Edit is similar to manage, but without the ability to delete the property or change roles. Read only allows the user to view the property, and prohibits edit actions.
