Turning the Wheels to Build Biking Infrastructure and Access


This conversation guide highlights a cross-disciplinary collaboration to improve biking infrastructure around a LEED-certified apartment complex in Bentonville, Arkansas. The guide includes questions for green building practitioners to use to kick-start health-focused collaboration in their own communities.

This guide is one of 10 developed by the Joint Call to Action to Promote Healthy Communities (JCTA). The guides build on the core values outlined in the 2017 Joint Call to Action to Promote Healthy Communities which provided a framework for effective local, state, and regional collaboration across fields. Those values include:

  • creating and foster partnerships that advance health
  • building and understanding of health data and establishment of measurable health objectives for plans and projects
  • advancing policies, programs, and systems that promote community health, well-being and equity
  • communicating the importance of health

The JCTA signatories include American Institute of Architects, American Planning Association, American Public Health Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Landscape Architects, National Recreation and Park Association, U.S. Green Building Council, and Urban Land Institute.
