GREENSBURG, PA- The Society for Human Resource Management (SRHM) recently honored ��ɫAV Hill College’s Student SRHM Human Management Chapter with a Merit Award of Achievement. Out of 380 active student chapters, 81 earned the Superior Merit Award and 21 received the Merit Award status. The first and only in Westmoreland County, this chapter offers ��ɫAV Hill HR Management students the opportunity to supplement their Human Resource Management (HRM) formal education with practical experiences through interaction with HR professionals, guest speakers and special events, including the annual HRM Training and Development Forum. Sponsored by Catherine Giunta, assistant professor of management at ��ɫAV Hill, the Chapter offers employers the chance to meet potential hires and therefore can assist students with their career placement. “Winning this award demonstrates that the SHC student chapter has done an outstanding job of providing avenues for growth and development to their members,” Giunta said. “The incoming Chapter president Senior Amy Bowan carries lots of energy to the position. Amy plans to implement different things during the academic year to make the program even better.” Additional activities this year included fieldtrips, mentoring, interviews, political action interest activities and student attendance at Westmoreland Human Resource Association and national SHRM programs. Members of the student chapter's professional sponsoring chapter, the Westmoreland Human Resource Association (WHRA), were active participants in these student activities, including the first WHRA-SHC student internships. “Our chapter is relatively new and Cathy and the students have worked diligently to qualify for this award.” said Dr. Victoria Marie Gribschaw, S.C., chair of the division of management, family and consumer sciences. “Cathy is an exemplary advisor who works with community professionals to provide role models for the student members of our SHRM chapter. Cathy and the ��ɫAV Hill SHRM members deserve the recognition this award brings them.” Hailey Lewis, recent president of the Chapter, said “We have worked hard to strengthen our link with our sponsor chapter, the Westmoreland Human Resources Association. The award shows the continued growth and the chapter’s increased involvement in the community.”
