GREENSBURG, PA- The ��ɫAV Hill College National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education (NCCHE) has planned several events for November 4th and 5th. On Sunday, November 4th from 4:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. in Saint Joseph Chapel, the Center will host the Westmoreland Choral Society directed by Marvin Huls, associate professor of music at ��ɫAV Hill College. The Choral Society will perform the Holocaust Cantata: Songs from the Camps. Each song and reading represents a different person and a different experience in the Holocaust. Arranger Donald McCullough researched the music and stories at the United States Holocaust Memorial ��ɫAV. Members of the ��ɫAV Hill and Greensburg communities who will serve as soloists include cellist Susan Wagner of the Westmoreland Symphony; soprano Laurie Jones, mezzo-soprano Rita Young, baritone Marc Tourre all of the Westmoreland Choral Society; and pianist Edgar Highberger. Readers will be Rabbi Sara Rae Perman of Greensburg’s Congregation Emanu-El Israel; Dr. Dan Gray, associate professor of education at ��ɫAV Hill College; Iva Saraceni, assistant professor of theatre at ��ɫAV Hill College; David Millstein, Esq.; Mark Kessler; Virginia Lieberman; Harvey Roth; Shirley Tannenbaum; and Steven Tannenbaum, DDS. Tickets are $9.00 for adults and $5.00 for students if purchased in advance. Tickets are $10 at the door if available. On Monday, November 5th, the Center will present the Symposium on Catholic-Jewish Relations and Holocaust Education from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. in Cecilian Hall followed by the Kristallnacht Remembrance Service in Saint Joseph Chapel. Topics for the Symposium include Recent Documents on Catholic-Jewish Relations and Catholic Teaching on the Shoah: Implementing the Holy See’s We Remember. Panelists for Recent Documents include Dr. Eva Fleischner, professor emerita of religion at Montclair State-University, NJ; Dr. John T. Pawlikowski, OSM, professor of social ethics at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago; Nicholas D.J. Lane, vice president of Halpern Buildings, Inc.; Rabbi Sara Rae Perman, leader of Congregation Emanu-El Israel; and Dr. Dorothy Jacko, SC, associate professor of religious studies/ theology at ��ɫAV Hill College, will serve as a moderator. Panelists for Catholic Teaching on the Shoah include Dr. Gemma Del Duca, SC, ��ɫAV Hill College NCCHE director in Israel; Dr. Audrey Doetzel, NDA, director of Christian-Jewish Relation and Encounter, NY; Sr. Maureen O’Brien, SC, director of campus ministry and religious studies teacher at Greensburg Central Catholic High School; Sr. Mary Victor Powers, SC, principal Word of God School in Swissvale; and Dr. Frances Leap, associate professor of religious studies/ theology at ��ɫAV Hill College, will serve as the moderator. The Kristallnacht Remembrance Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Saint Joseph Chapel. Marga Randall, author of How Beautiful We Once Were, will be the featured speaker. Randall experienced Kristallnacht (“Night of Broken Glass”) as a child in Germany. On this night, synagogues were destroyed, Jewish businesses and homes were vandalized, Jewish men were arrested and individuals were murdered. All are welcome to attend this annual interfaith service.
