��ɫAV Hill University will hold two events in February to honor the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr.

��ɫAV Hill University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Task Force will hold, “Our Lives Begin to End the Day We Become Silent About Things that Matter,” an educational program in commemoration of Dr. King’s birthday, featuring a panel of four community leaders who will discuss their personal experiences in taking a stand for social justice on February 2 from 11:10 to 12:25 p.m. in Cecilian Hall. 

On Saturday February 4 from 8 to 12:30, ��ɫAV Hill faculty, staff and students will volunteer at nine community organizations as part of the University’s annual day of community service known as “Take the Day On” in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

The Education event on February 2 will feature a panel that includes Debra Mason, ��ɫAV Hill University Diversity Officer; Dr. Anthony Robins, Deputy Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Robert Morris University; Kathy Raunikar, Executive Director of the YWCA of Westmoreland County; and Jeff Mallory, Director of Multicultural Affairs at Duquesne University.

During the Martin Luther King Jr. Education Day, panelists will discuss their personal experiences and the importance of not remaining silent and taking a stand for social justice. Students will be able to interact with members of the panel and engage in discussion that will help them gain a deeper understanding of the Civil Rights struggle, learn tolerance and awareness of other cultures, and better understand and appreciate the significance of Dr. King’s message and impact on our world. Students will also share ways they might become agents of change in supporting civil and human rights and dignity for all.

At Take the Day On, volunteers will provide service at a variety of locations in the Greensburg community, including Caritas Christi, Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity Warehouse, Christian Layman Store, Greater Parkview Church, Our Lady of Grace Food Bank, St. Emma’s Monastery, St. Vincent de Paul Store, ��ɫAV Hill Campus Ministry Lounge,and the YMCA Annex.

Both events are being held in February as ��ɫAV Hill’s spring semester did not begin until after Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
