Daniel Hernandez

Daniel Hernandez is a real estate developer, planner, and project manager and founder of PROYECTO. With over 30 years of experience, Daniel’s portfolio includes a broad range of project types in urban places from San Francisco to New York City, and more recently in Santa Fe where he was appointed the Director of the City’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency. He has been in leadership positions working in the non-profit, for-profit, and government sectors.

He has managed all phases of project development from concept to completion on small to large urban projects. He is committed to building the civic infrastructure that make for strong neighborhoods and cities, and his work builds on place-based assets to create value and place-making solutions. Daniel has a sound background in affordable housing development, public private partnerships, and large scale mixed-use development, and applies his real estate acumen to manage the development of arts and education facilities.

Daniel is more than a project manager. He works closely with his clients and communities to truly understand their goals so that together they create a viable vision and feasible development strategy. He works closely with clients and project stakeholders to establish a clear pathway and governance structure for progressing development and planning projects to successful completion. His work and dedication have led him to teaching positions at major universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Pratt, where he mentored graduate students in equitable and environmentally-responsible urban development. Daniel returned home to California in the Spring of 2017, after a successful career in San Francisco and New York City, to be near his family in the Santa Barbara County area, and now continues his work as a dedicated urban development practitioner in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
