Director - Sustainable Structures
McCownGordon Construction
I am passionate about reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment, while not sacrificing performance or constructability. I am a Structural Engineer, and spent roughly 6 years in traditional design firms. I spent 11 years working for the Structural Steel industry, where the importance of involving trade partners in early planning and decisions was learned to be paramount. I participated in data gathering for the first Structural Steel industry EPD, which was a turning point in realizing how carbon footprints of buildings are documented. I realized at this point it is imperative to have someone with a structural design background running Life Cycle Analysis studies, as data can be easily misinterpreted. I have worked for a General contractor, in a Structural Manager role, assisting in project pursuits, early design review and coordination, structural package buyout, and site QA/QC walks. I am fortunate to bring all of this knowledge full circle in my role with Clayco/Lamar Johnson, working across the enterprise to put in place corporate sustainability goals, with a focus on embodied carbon.
