USGBC Maryland is composed of a diverse group of stakeholders committed to making healthy, resilient, sustainable buildings and communities a reality for everyone in our state. Through programming, outreach, and market development activities, we support, promote, educate, and grow the green building industry.

  • Maryland has been in the Top 10 States for LEED since 2011.
  • Maryland is home to the first LEED Platinum-certified project in the U.S., the CBF Phillip Merrill Environmental Center.
  • Maryland’s Montgomery County became the first county in the U.S. to adopt a benchmarking law, and in 2022 Montgomery County also became part of the small but growing cohort of jurisdictions to adopt a building energy performance standard into law.

Led by the volunteer Market Leadership Advisory Board, corporate and non-profit partners, and USGBC staff, USGBC Maryland is part of USGBC’s larger network dedicated to promoting sustainability worldwide. We advance USGBC’s mission locally by growing the influence of LEED and other sustainability-centered solutions offered through GBCI that improve the quality of life in our cities and neighborhoods. Our current priority topics include quality of life, green finance, and decarbonization.
