USGBC National Capital Region is composed of a diverse group of stakeholders committed to making healthy, resilient, sustainable buildings and communities a reality for everyone in our state. Through programming, outreach, and market development activities, we support, promote, educate, and grow the green building industry.

  • While not officially a state, the District of Columbia has been recognized annually as part of USGBC’s Top 10 States for LEED campaign since 2010.
  • Nearly 250 companies headquartered in the National Capital Region are members of USGBC.
  • Over 8,900 projects in the National Capital Region have earned LEED certification.
  • LEED Silver is a standard for buildings in DC per the requirements of the
  • DC was the first city in the U.S. to earn Platinum certification under LEED for Cities, and had the first LEED-certified Major League Baseball stadium in the U.S., Nationals Park.

Led by the volunteer Market Leadership Advisory Board, corporate and non-profit partners, and USGBC staff, USGBC National Capital Region is part of USGBC’s larger network dedicated to promoting sustainability worldwide. We advance USGBC’s mission locally by growing the influence of LEED and other sustainability-centered solutions offered through GBCI that improve the quality of life in our cities and neighborhoods. Our current priority topics include decarbonization, advocacy and circular economy.
